So, who's who in Crannan politics by the time Steravia drowns? Here's a short run-down, feel free to add important names & people if needed :D

Contents

Gerth Konig of Cranna

Head of the Prefects - first in the council. Has ruled Cranna efficiently for over fifteen years by the turning of the millennium. The people are very fond of their ruler. Middle-aged man with a shining bald head, tall and slight of build. Light complexion, gentle smile. Personal friend of Daelin. Was involved in the staging of the riots in Circha; he knew about the demonstration and did nothing to keep the raging tempers in check, allowing the thing to turned into a violent bloodbath.

Josif Karadan of Kirkenes

A beautiful man: long, straight brown hair, usually kept in a loose braid, delicate features. Always very presentable to the point of vain. Forest hunter, hunts with a bow. The man could move like a shadow.

Novem Dintik of Hedmark

Matronly woman in her late forties, with a mop of fuzzy blond hair and an eternal warm smile. Mentor/motherly type, especially to Lyanna Toren of Jarden when she came unexpectedly into power: there's a strong bond of friendship between them. Initially kept her borders open to PB's, later succumbed under pressure of other Prefects after the riots in Circha.

Lyanna Toren of Jarden

Short-cropped blond hair, sister of a PB. Has at least one daughter of ten years old. Thirty years old by the time of Steravia's fall. Is the one supporting the PB case in the council for as long as she can, the last one to succumb to the council's pressure. Defies them until the end, tolerating PB's in the Junkai mountains and claiming she doesn't know anything about that.

Eleanor Giers of Alta

Difficult woman, has been ruling Alta for only a handful of years by the time Steravia falls. Broad and even quite fat, with dark hair and sparkling dark eyes. Is a mother of five and has the infuriating ability to treat people as if they are children when she is annoyed. Headstrong, superiority complex, with bad experiences with PB's in her youth so pretty adamant about kicking some PB ass.

Kevran Young of Mentis

Red-haired, a complete charmer with devilish smile. Gracious host, but also flirty: he's quite the womanizer. Early thirties. Knows very well how to handle himself in an argument and how to get things that he want... from pretty much everyone. Good relationship with Gerth Konig. Completely backs Daelin in the PB issue.

Daelin, child of Dor

Last name never mentioned - named after the prophet Dael. Dark hair, olive complexion, dark eyes. Forty years old. Has a warm, clear voice that carries. Is obviously used to speaking in public. Argues well, knows how to turn people's arguments against them. Is a public figure, well-known and well-loved, did a lot for the community. Married to Mirian, which he loved well, father to seven children.

His firstborn son was called Doran. When during puberty he was getting harder and harder to handle all of a sudden (depression, anxiety), Daelin went to pray for guidance, fasting for three days in church. When he came back, his whole family was dead save for his son. Doran's a Patternbearer; element: Death. His Awakening created a virus that was not channeled out, but turned inwards, becoming a sort of extremely infective and aggressive pestilence that wiped out everyone around him, saving him for last. Doran lost his mind in the process and died in Daelin's arms. Daelin declares him demonspawn and burns his house, cremating his loved ones and his old life with one fell swoop, preaching his painful story to whoever wants to hear it. Circha weeps with him and goes into morning: for a week there are white ribbons everywhere. He receives a lot of backing, also from political figures like Gerth Konig, who is one of his personal friends.

That same season he calls for the Children of Dor to sever all ties with Patternbearers. They leave the isle of Steravia, but not before one of the priests, Elian Celtarn, severely injures a young Patternbearer named Sienna for having the guts to enter his church. She only survives because she scorches her wounds shut with her Fire. When confronted with this, Daelin denies this accusiation and implies that it was Sienna who attacked Elian. He lies extremely convincingly and speaks with a passion that marks a zealot.

After the riots in Circha he gets a permanent spot in the Prefect Council, until he gets sick. He says it's because of his son's disease, but most likely he's setting himself up to be a martyr by taking poison in small doses. It's technically not possible for Doran's sickness to have tainted him and start consuming him after so long, but the people listen to him.

Daelin dies in the early winter of 999, around Winter Solstice.
